Our commitment to accessibility
We want everyone — including people with disabilities — to be able to find, read and use this website.
Transitions has supported people with developmental disabilities in St. Albert since 1978. Accessibility isn’t an afterthought for us — it’s central to who we are. We’re committed to making this website usable for everyone, whatever their abilities or the technology they use.
The standard we aim for
We design and build this site to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA — the internationally recognized benchmark for accessible websites. These guidelines help make content perceivable, operable, understandable and robust for people who use screen readers, keyboards, magnification, captions and other assistive technologies.
What that means in practice
- Pages use clear, semantic structure so screen readers can navigate them.
- You can operate the whole site with a keyboard — no mouse required.
- Text and background colours meet AA contrast ratios for readability.
- Text can be resized and the page zoomed to 200% without breaking the layout.
- Images that carry meaning include descriptive alternative text.
- Forms have visible labels and clear instructions.
- Navigation is consistent from page to page, and links describe where they go.
- We avoid content that flashes or moves in ways that could cause discomfort.
Ongoing work
Accessibility is never “done.” We test with assistive technologies and improve the site over time. Some content provided by third parties — such as our embedded donation form — isn’t entirely within our control; where we rely on outside tools, we choose providers who take accessibility seriously and we raise issues with them when we find them.
