Our Team & Board

The people behind the work

Behind every program at Transitions is a group of people who care deeply about the families we serve — and about doing this work well. The organization is guided by a volunteer Board of Directors and led, day to day, by an experienced management team, all working toward the same thing: helping people with developmental disabilities live full, self-directed lives in their own community.

Our Board of Directors brings community members together to set our direction, steward our resources, and keep Transitions accountable to the people it exists to serve. They volunteer their time and judgment so that decisions about our future are made close to home, by people invested in St. Albert.

Our leadership team turns that direction into everyday support — overseeing our children's, family and adult services, our finances, and the front-line staff who show up for families every day. Between them they bring decades of experience in disability services, and a shared belief that the best outcomes come from meeting each person where they are.

Together, they're the dedicated board and management team building new tomorrows — the same commitment that has guided Transitions since 1978. Meet the people leading the work below.

Across these roles, Doreen has led fundraising strategy, community partnerships, and organizational planning in service of missions built around care and connection. As a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE), she brings both strategic rigor and a genuine commitment to the people and communities these organizations serve. Doreen now brings that same dedication to Transitions, guiding its programs, people, and strategic direction with an eye toward lasting impact.

Cathy Kirsch

Director of Children & Adult Services

Cathy Kirsch has been part of the heart and soul of Transitions for over 26 years. She began her journey in 1999 as a host home and respite provider in the Family Services Program, and has since held several roles in both Family and Adult Services. Today she brings her experience and unwavering passion to leading inclusive, person-centered supports across the organization. What Cathy loves most about her role is being part of a community where people truly care — where coworkers, families, and individuals come together with a shared purpose: to make life better for people who call St. Albert home. Outside of work, Cathy is an avid traveler, a devoted dog lover, and most proudly, a brand-new nana — her favourite title yet!

Andy Tran

Andy Tran started with Transitions in 2004 as an Accounts Receivable Clerk at the old Grandin Mall tower, and is now the Manager, Finance. With his accounting and administration background, coupled with hands-on experience, he successfully led a payroll conversion committee from a paper time-attendant and payroll system to an online platform in 2021 — eliminating manual processes for all staff. Besides the finance role, Andy loves to work with his hands and is very good at fixing and repairing equipment and building; some staff call him “Handy Andy” in the office. He loves fishing and spending time outdoors.

Her passion grew from personal family experiences, giving her deep insight into the challenges and rewards of navigating support systems. For ten years, Amber ran a support home for two gentlemen, one of whom received services through Transitions. This gave her a unique perspective as both a caregiver and service provider, highlighting the importance of person-centered care and strong communication. Now a Supervisor in Adult Services, Amber uses her hands-on experience to support people, families, and staff with empathy and practical insight. She believes “Everyone has a story, a unique book of life worth honouring.”
