Check out these upcoming cost-free and family-friendly activities in St. Albert, Edmonton, Morinville, and Sturgeon County.


December 1 – January 1

Elliot Place Christmas Lights and Display: Colourful lights and Christmas displays at Elliot Place (cul-de-sac north of the Sturgeon Hospital).  Please bring a donation to the St. Albert Food Bank if you are able.

December 6 – January 9

The Giving Tree: Donate winter gear to the St. Albert Community Village by adding new gloves, toques, and socks to one of the trees at Servus Place or Fountain Park.

December 15 – 17

Yule Ave Festival: Come to the Alberta Avenue Community Centre for free music, chili, winter clothing, decoration-making, and wagon rides.

December 16

Family Christmas at the Enjoy Centre: Visit the Enjoy Centre in St. Albert to enjoy free treats, entertainment, carols, and photos with special guests!

December 17

Skate with Santa: Enjoy the holidays with free skating at the Kinex Arena.

St. Albert Community Carol Sing: Come to the Arden Theatre for this carol sing-along event.

December 21

Winter Soulstice Party: Bring your skates to Victoria Park in Edmonton for this free live music event for all ages.

Annual Morinville Community Christmas Celebration: Everyone is invited to attend this musical celebration at St. Jean Baptiste Church.  Please bring a donation to the food bank.

December 31

New Year’s Eve Fireworks in St. Albert: An early fireworks display on Mission Hill at 8:30 p.m. — great for young families!

New Year’s Eve Fireworks in Edmonton: The City of Edmonton will be hosting family-friendly New Year’s Eve celebrations at the Alberta Legislature Grounds this year.

January 7 – February 25

Swing ‘n’ Skate Sundays: Live swing music at Edmonton City Hall. Skate rentals are free!

January 7

New Year’s Skate: Celebrate the New Year with free skating, hot chocolate, and treats at the Kinex Arena in St. Albert!

An Afternoon of Beading, Tea and History: All ages and levels of beading are welcome to this event at the Musee Heritage Museum in St. Albert.  Admission is by donation.

January 13 – 14

Deep Freeze: A Byzantine Winter Festival: A winter wonderland on 118 Avenue in Edmonton.  Activities include skating, curling, snow carving, street hockey, dancing, and live music!

January 25 – 28

St. Albert Mixed Bonspiel: Free admission to watch games at the St. Albert Curling Club.

January 26

Giant Board Games for Families: Celebrate Family Literacy Day at the St. Albert Public Library by playing giant board games together.

January 27

Winterfest in Castle Downs: Sleigh rides, refreshments, music, and pallet races at the Castle Downs District Park in Edmonton.

February 7

Winter Walk Day: Register to participate in one of the many Winter Walks taking place around Edmonton, including Edmonton City Hall and the Legislature.

February 9 – 19

Silver Skate Festival: Head down to Hawrelak Park to enjoy Edmonton’s biggest winter festival!

February 14

Winter Walk Day: Meet at the Morinville Community Culture Centre  for a lunchtime winter walk!

February 18 & 19

Snowman Festival: Enjoy fun winter activities in Morinville!

February 19

Family Day at the Legislature: Celebrate Family Day with free activities at the Alberta Legislature.

March 1

Celebrating French Heritage: See a flag-raising event and family-friendly performance as part of this celebration of French language and culture in Morinville.
